One of the most popular inhabitants of the famous Boot Room, Roy Evans served Liverpool in every capacity possible during a lengthy and distinguished association with the club.
A former England schoolboy international, he made the move to Anfield as an apprentice in 1965, progressing impressively through the ranks before making the first of just 11 senior appearances in 1970.
A much brighter future beckoned on the backroom staff, with Evans becoming the youngest coach to work in the Football League aged just 25 when he hung up his boots and accepted the position of reserve team manager.
It was a role in which he shone, leading the Reds’ second string to seven Central League titles in just nine years before stepping up to work with the first team.
During his own eventual spell as manager, Liverpool lifted the League Cup in 1995 and consistently finished in the top four of the Premier League playing a brand of football that excited the fans.
